Led jointly by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the day raises global awareness of foodborne diseases and promotes practical actions to prevent them—across homes, communities, and food systems worldwide.

The 2026 theme, “From burden to solutions – safe food everywhere,” focuses on moving from recognizing the heavy health impact of unsafe food toward implementing effective, evidence-based solutions. Each year, millions of people experience illness linked to contaminated food, placing a significant burden on public health systems and families. The 2026 campaign emphasizes the importance of using data and science, including upcoming WHO foodborne disease estimates, to better understand risks, set policy priorities, and strengthen prevention strategies.

World Food Safety Day 2026 also underscores that food safety is a chain of responsibility—from farmers and producers to transporters, retailers, kitchens, and consumers. Good hygiene, safe storage and cooking practices, responsible regulation, and transparent food standards all contribute to reducing risk and protecting health.

At MAHAK Charity Institute, safeguarding children’s wellbeing is central to our mission. For children undergoing cancer treatment, nutrition and food safety are especially important, as treatment can make them more vulnerable to infections. By recognizing World Food Safety Day 2026, MAHAK supports awareness and solutions that help ensure safer food practices—at every step, for every person, everywhere.

[132
