The conference on ‘Pediatric Oncology Nursing’ was held at MAHAK hospital on November 10, 2016 with the participation of oncology nurses, pediatric nurses, the paramedics and support services’ experts.
Dr. Azim Mehrvar, hematologist and pediatric oncology specialist and head of MAHAK Pediatric Cancer Treatment and Research Center (MPCTRC), expressed his pleasure towards holding such conferences focusing on the nurses’ operations, the frontiers of cancer fighting, and stated: “Holding such specialized conferences in different arenas, will lead to promotion in scientific level and addressing the challenges in diagnosis, treatment and support of children with cancer.”
The Quality of Cancer-Stricken Children’s Life, First Priority in Treatment Process
Dr. Mehrvar, emphasizing on the necessity of welfare and support services for children with cancer and describing the ‘Chemotherapy Principles in Pediatric Oncology’, stated: “since, being noticed about the quality and adaptability of the life of children with cancer and their families during treatment process is very important, MAHAK provides supportive, psychological and treatment services simultaneously. It is also vital to have enough knowledge about the situation and the problems in every age group from infancy to adolescence to simplify the treatment process, reduce the pain and build good relationship between medical team and the children with cancer.
MAHAK, Next to Children with Cancer from the 1st Day to the End of the Treatment Process
He continued his speech with a dedicatory to the late prof. Parvaneh Vossough and said:” the aim of support services department of MAHAK is maintaining the children with cancer and their families’ dignity in all the stages of treatment. This approach is a legacy left from the late prof. Vossough which has facilitated the treatment process significantly among the cancer-stricken children and their families.
Specialized Articles in the Field of Welfare and Medical Services to Children with Cancer
During this conference, the physicians, nurses, and support services experts presented their speeches on different topics, with the aim of sharing their knowledge and experiences with other participants, such as Oncology Emergencies, Side Effects of Chemotherapy, An Introduction to Bone Marrow Transplantation, Pediatric Cancer Patients Isolation, Undergoing Chemotherapy Patients’ Nutrition Requisites, Patients’ Nutrition in ICU, Nursing Care in Case of Drug Leakage, Mucositis and its Treatment, Neutropenia and Infection Risk and Facilitating Treatment Process.
During the past quarter-century of activity, MAHAK has always striven to provide children with cancer and their families with the best level of treatment and support services by organizing contiguous specialized conferences and training sessions for MAHAK staffs in order to train them and exchang knowledge, experiences and achievements en-route of its mission.
