MAHAK Nowruz Charity Bazaar was held with the help of 300 volunteers on February 27-28, 2014 with over 5000 attendees.
“Haft-Seen”
The center of this event which attracted the most attention was the Haft-Seen booth. Haft-Seen or the seven ‘S’s is a traditional table setting of Nowruz, the traditional Iranian spring celebration. The Haft Seen table includes seven items all starting with the letter “Seen” in the Persian alphabet. On a typical table one could find the following:
Sumac (crushed spice of berries): Symbolizing the dawn of a new period and the spice of life
Senjed (sweet dry fruit of the lotus tree): Symbolizing love and affection
Serkeh (vinegar): Symbolizing patience and age
Seeb (apples): Symbolizing health and beauty
Seer (garlic): Symbolizing good health
Samanu (wheat pudding): Symbolizing fertility and the sweetness of life
Sabzeh (sprouted wheat grass): Symbolizing rebirth and renewal of nature
With this difference that this year “Salamati” which means health was also added to the table. This “Seen” was the most important element on the table, referred to the help of all attendees which supported MAHAK, all volunteers which put in countless hours to bring a “Salamati” (healthy) new beginning for MAHAK children.
One of the items auctioned was a cardboard boat which was made by the children of MAHAK. This boat was built by children with the help of social workers. The boat with its beautiful sails which had been painted by the MAHAK children sailed into the hearts of all attendees.
Another item up for group purchase was a Football which was signed by Ali Daei, former captain of Iranian national team and present coach of Persepolis football team who visited MAHAK a couple of days before the event. MAHAK benefactors also donated funds for the purchase of new clothes for the children.
The Presence of Popular Figures
Just like previous bazaars, well-known celebrities also attended this event in order to show their love and support for the children of MAHAK. Rozbeh Nematoallahi, Soheil Mahmoodi, Bahareh Rahnama, Mehrab Ghasemkhani and Pouya Amini comprise some of the better known figures who visited MAHAK during this bazaar.
Revenues Generated by the Bazaar:
As always all the revenues generated by this bazaar which surpassed the mark of 6 Billion Rials will be spent on medicine for and treatment of children suffering from cancer
MAHAK fully appreciates all the kindness and support benevolent members and volunteers selflessly provide which, through these types of activities, help children remain children, giving them hope and conviction, preventing them from becoming reclusive, and thus assisting them in maximizing their chances for recovery and returning to normal life afterwards.
