On October 12, MAHAK commemorates World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2013, under the theme of ‘Achieving Universal Coverage of Palliative Care: Dispelling the myths’, marked to raise awareness and understanding of the needs – medical, social, physical and spiritual – of people living with a life-limiting illness and their families in promotion of health care policy principles based on increasing quality of life and providing equipped care centers while reducing the burdens of service provision for every patient throughout the world. In this vein, MAHAK has taken big strides by the establishment of its first residential center in 1998 devoted to out-patient pediatric cancer cases and their parents coming from afar which serves a critically important function without which many families would be excluded from services available only at MAHAK specialty hospital. Moreover, MAHAK’s Social Services Department supports children with cancer and their families through counseling, education and providing all necessary assistance required for palliation.
We at MAHAK would like to express our appreciation to all health care providers and community and non-governmental organizations which have adopted proactive and effective measures to increase the availability of hospice and palliative care throughout the world and hope that one day all people live their lives in a healthy and hopeful manner with your support and cooperation.
