On the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week (WBW), Dr. Azim Mehrvar, head of MAHAK Pediatric Cancer Treatment and Research Center said:
During the past 25 years, MAHAK has constantly attempted to study about all different aspects of children’s health raise their families’ awareness. Breastfeeding is one of these important issues.
Observing children’s nourishment can improve their immunity system and decrease the possibility of cancer. Since breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure children’s health, MAHAK requests from young mothers to care more about their child’s health. Good nutrition is one of the main motives for physical, intellectual and immunity system growth that increases the sense of health and peace among families.
However there is no certain fact for direct relationship between breastfeeding and pediatric cancer, but due to its impact on the infection rate reduction, digestion and immunity system improvement in general, we believe breast milk is the best nutritional choice for infants.
Breast milk is free of infection, transmitting diseases, carcinogens, and additives which is more digestible than formula, and is always available. Having a close and spiritual relationship between the mother and the child which can meet up the emotional and also physical needs of the child is another reason for breastfeeding.
The importance of breastfeeding is to the extent that doctors always advise the mother even in the most challenging physical or mental status to breast feed their children along with receiving required treatment because it is useful for their own and their babies.
The World Breastfeeding Week 2016 is entitled by the theme of ‘the key for sustainable development’. Over 25 years of supporting children with cancer, MAHAK has always striven to focus on the two concepts of sustainability and development. We, at MAHAK believe that privileged perspective to fundamentals of a healthy lifestyle will decrease the exorbitant cost of treatment in the future.
