Director of WHO’s Cancer Research Agency Visits MAHAK

The director of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), Dr. Christopher P. Wild paid a visit to MAHAK accompanying by Dr. Reza Malekzadeh Deputy Director-General of Research and Technical Support of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, and Dr. Kazem Zendehdel, Deputy of Research of Cancer Institute of Iran.
During his visit to different wards and research department, giving various suggestions regarding development of research method, he emphasized on its integration with global standards.
Dr. P. Wild also while paying tribute to the remarkable activities which are happening at MAHAK charity and hospital, stated:” receiving support from a large number of active donors, which has impressed me very much, indicates that you are performing successfully in the right path and are affecting not only the individuals but also in the bigger level, the society. In fact, MAHAK creates hope.”
He also added: “what I have noticed during the visit is that there are a lot of patients coming from not only Iran but also from surrounding countries so clearly, this is offering a lot of opportunities for them to have a good outcome.”
IARC director mentioned the necessity and importance of early diagnosis and said: “I can summarize my words by saying that regardless of the announced numbers of cancer survivors, MAHAK is really a center of hope for cancer patients and give encouragement for the families in difficult times.” and ended: “I am sure we might expand our cooperation in the near future regarding various cancers’ researches.”
International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is the specialized cancer agency of the World Health Organization (WHO). Its objective is to promote international collaboration in cancer research by bringing together skills in epidemiology, laboratory sciences and biostatistics to identify the causes of cancer and consequently, to reduce the burden of disease and associated sufferings or in the best level to prevent them. The activities of IARC is not limited to research only but global Cancer biobank, training and education, and global reference for cancer information are some of the vast arenas of this agency’s activities.
Being elected as the director of IARC since 2009, director of the Leeds Institute of Genetics, Health and Therapeutics in December 2005, the Chair of Molecular Epidemiology at the University of Leeds and graduated with post-doctoral from well-known universities are among his significant education and career achievements. His researches are mainly concentrated to understand the interplay between environmental and genetic risk factors in the causation of human cancer which are going to happen at IARC.
The presence of such prominent individuals from such well-known and policy maker institutions at MAHAK provides the opportunity to share knowledge and experiences. In addition, MAHAK always welcomes all the individuals and organizations active in cancer research and treatment in order to realize its mission of supporting children with cancer and their families with the best level of services.
Reaching to this level of trust all over the country and abroad is the result of MAHAK’s ever expanding family’s continued kindness and support by which cancer-stricken children will one day be able to say goodbye to cancer and return to their sweet childhood days.
