One of the international speakers who gave a speech during “the Biennial International Congress of Pediatric Oncology in Memory of Professor Vossough”, was Dr. Donald Mabbott as the clinical Neuropsychologist from SickKids Hospital of Toronto, Canada.
Dr. Mabbott is the head of Neurosciences and Mental Health Program and Senior Scientist at the Research Institute of SickKids hospital. He also has an academic position as a Professor in Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto.
During his speech at the congress which he gave virtually, he focused on the topic “Clinical Neuropsychologist”. He provided a detailed analysis of how radiation therapy disrupts the delicate equilibrium of brain connectivity, thereby influencing cognitive outcomes.
In parallel, Nora, a postdoctoral researcher who works at Dr. Mabbott’s laboratory, conducted an investigation into the structural and functional connectivity of the brain in both healthy children and individuals who had undergone tumor treatment, revealing notable disruptions within the default mode and executive networks following treatment.
The collective efforts of Dr. Robert and Nora have significantly advanced the understanding of the cognitive ramifications experienced by pediatric brain tumor patients.
