Head of International Society for Pediatric Oncology (SIOP) Visits MAHAK

Professor Eric Bouffet, the Head of International Society for Pediatric Oncology (SIOP), paid a visit to MAHAK in coincidence with his presence as the keynote speaker at “the 2nd International Congress on the Role of Supportive Bio-Psycho-Socio-Spiritual Services in Multidisciplinary Treatment of Childhood Cancer”.

During his visit to different wards of the hospital including ICU and radiation oncology department accompanied by the head of MAHAK Hospital, he paid tribute to the remarkable activities which have been done at MAHAK charity and hospital. According to more than 16 years of experience in multidisciplinary treatment, he also expressed his interest in counseling MAHAK in its approach on utilizing this method in childhood cancer treatment.

The International Society for Pediatric Oncology (SIOP) is a medical association for pediatric oncologists who are dedicated to increasing knowledge about childhood cancer globally with the vision of “No child should die of cancer”. SIOP focuses on accessing the high quality of treatment and care for children with cancer, among the latest achievements of which best curative and palliative therapies and promoting long-term follow up for cancer-stricken children can be cited. SIOP congresses have been held annually with different topics including education and science to facilitate the exchange of ideas and information in pediatric oncology.

Prof. Eric Bouffet, Director of the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Program at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and the elected president of the International Society of Pediatric Oncology since 2015 leads more than 1,000 scientists, doctors, nurses and other health-care professionals as SIOP’s members in increasing SIOP’s knowledge about all aspects of childhood cancer and achieving its goal to improve and optimize treatments for pediatric oncology patients across the globe.

After visiting MAHAK hospital he, along with other speakers visited Mofid Hospital, one of the pediatric hospitals in Tehran with Hematology – Oncology ward, and expressed their appreciation towards the fruitful performed activities.

The presence of prominent experts from different specialized organizations at MAHAK creates the opportunity of sharing knowledge and experiences especially in the field of cancer research and treatment and leads to realization of its main mission which is supporting children with cancer and their families with the most efficient services. Accordingly, receiving positive recognitions from individuals like the president of such scientific associations assures MAHAK that all its efforts are in the right path and encourage us to go on with more inspiration and courage.
