At the end of World War II, 50 countries gathered with the aim of establishing an organization to maintain peace and harmony among people all over the world. They proceeded to draft and then sign the UN Charter, which created a new international organization, the United Nations.
During the past 76 years, notwithstanding the vicissitudes of conflict, the United Nations continues to work to maintain international peace and security, to give humanitarian assistance to those in need, to protect human rights and to uphold international law.
MAHAK was formed 30 years ago with the aim of supporting one of the most vulnerable groups in society: children suffering from cancer and their families all over Iran regardless of their nationality, ethnicity, color, language or gender. The principles which brought MAHAK into existence were just as philanthropic and altruistic as the ones which led to the formation of the UN.
We at MAHAK, have sought to collaborate with professional organizations including the UN to achieve our ultimate goal which is to offer the most up to date and most efficient services to cancer-stricken children. Our collaborations have been expanded over the years to include different UN agencies such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
October 24 is celebrated as United Nations Day to highlight the necessity of service provision without discrimination for a better world. On this occasion, we pay tribute to all the individuals as well as the organizations that strive to preserve serenity in the world and preserve its beauty for future generations.
May the efforts of organizations like the UN result in a world where discrimination is eradicated and all human beings live in dignity, unity and peace.
Happy United Nations Day!
