Each year on 8 September, the world observes International Literacy Day, established by UNESCO to emphasize the fundamental importance of literacy as a human right, a pillar for dignity and a catalyst for fairer and more peaceful societies.

The official theme for 2025 is “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era,” reflecting the profound impact digitalization has on how we learn, live and connect. While digital tools offer vast opportunities for learning, especially for marginalized communities, they also risk “double marginalization”—excluding those already without basic literacy from both traditional education and digital access.

At MAHAK, we understand that literacy—both traditional and digital—is essential not only for academic growth but also for empowerment and resilience, especially for children facing serious illnesses like cancer. Maintaining learning during treatment is more than normalcy—it’s a lifeline.

Through our educational support programs—ranging from tutoring to digital learning tools—we ensure that every child at MAHAK maintains connection with their education, their peers and their future aspirations. We believe that even amid medical challenges, access to learning builds hope, preserves identity and fuels recovery.

On International Literacy Day 2025, MAHAK joins the global conversation: advocating for inclusive literacy in every form, reinforcing that education is not optional—it’s essential.
