MAHAK is committed to have children suffering from cancer benefit from the best, effective, and most advanced facilities and equipment as well as from the most up to date therapeutic methods.

MAHAK Radiotherapy Unit is currently equipped with a new accelerator machine called ONCOR that is capable of executing the IMRT technique. This technique delivers better therapy and more protection for healthy tissues of the patient’s body, thus a more successful recovery for children suffering from cancer.

Along with chemotherapy and surgery, radiotherapy is one of the conventional methods in treating cancer. In this method, ions are used to destroy or minimize cancerous tissues. In radiotherapy, because of damage to DNA, cells in the area of treatment are destroyed. The growth or multiplication of [cancerous] cells becomes impossible or disrupted. Even though the rays harm cancerous cells as well as healthy ones, the majority of healthy cells recover and essentially replace the destroyed cells. The goal of radiotherapy is to destroy the majority of cancerous cells with the least possible damage to healthy tissues.

Dr. Mitra Ghalibafian, MAHAK Hospital’s technical manager for the Radiotherapy Unit pointed out  the advantage of the accelerator machine:

“MAHAK’s Radiotherapy Unit is equipped with the ONCOR Accelerator Machine, which is outfitted with multileaf collimator, creating the domain for executing radiotherapy using Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT). In addition to releasing more suitable rays on the tumour, in this method the surrounding healthier tissues are better protected and the chances of the patient’s recovery increase with less illnesses later on. This machine is also equipped with an Electronic Portal Imaging Device (EPID) which before every session controls and guarantees the accuracy of the area of treatment.”

Two respected philanthropists, Hassan Jarahizadeh and Giti Jarahi, helped in the equipment of the Radiotherapy Unit. Any dear donor who seeks to equip this unit and other units in MAHAK Hospital as well as help improve quality of support for children suffering from cancer can call +982123501008, +982123501083 and get informed about the MAHAK Hospital’s needs.

MAHAK ever expanding family hopes to improve the quality of therapeutic and services for supporting children suffering from cancer.
