Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian donates her artwork to MAHAK

Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian’s work of art as the first dedication of hers to a charity which will be on view from now on in the main hall of MAHAK’s second building, was unveiled on Friday, July 13, 2018 with the presence of Mrs. Farrmanfarmaian, the International Iranian artist, MAHAK’s boards of trustees and directors, supporters and volunteers along with representatives from other NGOs and Iranian famous artists.

Farmanfarmaian is an Iranian artist who lives in Tehran and collects traditional folk art. She has been noted as one of the most prominent Iranian artists of the contemporary period as the first artist to achieve an artistic practice that weds the geometric patterns and cut-glass mosaic techniques of her Iranian heritage with the rhythms of modern western geometric abstraction. In 2017, Monir Museum in Tehran, Iran was opened in her honor. Farmanfarmaian is the first Iranian artist whose works have been featured at a solo exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum in New York and has been widely featured in Middle Eastern, American and European countries by art historians. Last year, in the gallery of the Museum of Negarestan, a permanent hall was dedicated to displaying the works of this visual artist.

This esteemed artist has donated her invaluable ‘Aineh Kari’ (Mirror Work) to MAHAK which consists of 2 pieces of Moqarnas, 6 pieces of large triangles and 14 pieces of small triangles rooted in the traditional Islamic geometric patterns.

MAHAK, the society to support children suffering from cancer throughout its 27 years of activities as a charity organization with the mission of providing comprehensive support for children with cancer throughout Iran and neighboring countries and ranked as the 4th NGO in the world by SGS, has always benefited from the whole-hearted collaborations of the artistic community who have accompanied this organization in this path.

This ceremony was held with the aim of celebrating the valuable art of artists such as Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian who, in addition to her professional activities with a humanitarian perspective, devoted her artistic skills to reducing social concerns.

We at MAHAK, as an organization which is always a trustee of philanthropist humanitarian art, hope to witness the recovery of more children from cancer as a result of the benevolent activities of the individuals who join the ever-expanding family of MAHAK.
