With the beginning of the Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (CCAM), the conference on “Treatment and Care of Children’s Chronic Wounds after Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy” focusing on the latest scientific achievements on specialized care for oncology and radiation-oncology chronic wounds was held on August 31, 2023 at MAHAK Pediatric Cancer Treatment and Research Center (MPCTRC).
This conference was part of the initiatives with the primary objective of disseminating knowledge and sharing insights on pediatric oncology wound care and radiotherapy advancements. On the sideline of the conference, the CCAM campaign was explained to the participants by distributing #Gogold badges to join it and spread the word and accompany MAHAK in raising awareness about childhood cancer, its challenges and requirements among their communities.
Wound control is a vital aspect of diagnosis, treatment, and care for children with cancer and in some cases, the severity and complications of the wound can have an impact on their disease control.
Given that and to address this issue, MAHAK as the only pediatric cancer care center in Iran held this conference for specialists in pediatric hematology and oncology, pediatric infectious diseases, plastic-reconstructive surgery, and burns. Additionally, specialists in radiation therapy (radio-oncology), pediatric diseases, emergency medicine, general practitioners, and nursing (specialist doctorate/master’s degree/bachelor’s degree) were the attendees of this event.
During the past years of activity, MAHAK has strived to organize different specialized meetings, in-service trainings and conferences with the aim of increasing the knowledge and specialty of its team members and providing better and more qualified services to children with cancer and their families.
