The youngest caver of Iran walked in the Prova cave in the district of Kermanshah in October 2014 to support the children who are suffering from cancer. With a depth of 752 meters, the Prova cave is one of the deepest and coldest caves in Iran.
The eleven-year-old Asra Mafakheri is one of the youngest cavers in Iran, and a member of the committee of speleologists and cavers in Sanandaj. For numerous times, she has achieved success in exploring and walking in the caves. Regarding her purpose to support her little friends by walking in this cave, she said: “I was introduced to MAHAK by my brother. My brother explained the kind of disease that children in MAHAK suffer from, and the path they must go through in order to regain their health.
My path in a cave is similar to my friends in MAHAK. However, the dim light shows me the peace and beauty of the caves, and the spotlights take my tiresome away.
Compared to other caves, it was rather difficult and challenging to walk in the Prova cave. However, I felt more energetic once I knew I was enduring this difficulty for my friends at MAHAK. I walked this cave in twenty-five hours. I considered myself as a member of MAHAK children’s team and their representative, so I kept up my efforts. My teammates should also keep on trying so that they can be healthy again.”
With our gratitude to this young athlete and her family, that has taught her humanism, we hope for the day that we can celebrate the health of all children who are suffering from cancer.
