In our culture, we relate all good things to sweet things:
We regard our best memory as a sweet memory; the most delightful smile as a sweet smile; the most pleasant story as a sweet story. When we want to celebrate good news, we celebrate it with sweets and confectionery. And if all these sweets cause diabetes…
Diabetes is one of the most common illnesses in Iran and in the world. Putting aside the sweets and sweetness, many factors cause this disease among which are physical inactivity, obesity and unhealthy diet. During the pandemic hit that we spend most of our time at home, we are all prone to gaining weight and consequently, Diabetes is closer to us than ever.
For prevention, the first step is to have a blood sugar testing which is free of charge in many medical centers. The next step is having physical activity even in a small apartment; although exercising in a small space is not pleasant, it is necessary for diabetes prevention. There is no cure for diabetes; so, it is easier to stop it happening in the first place. On the World Diabetes Day, let’s be more cautious about this disease which comes silently and never leaves us.
