Similar to a gentle breeze, Nowruz message of renewing and refreshing spreads all over the Iran. The sweet scent of spring is felt across the northern hemisphere as well, signaling a promising year ahead for all.
In accordance with the ancient tradition, MAHAK has taken the Nowruz Haft-Seen into the children’s rooms at hospitals, reminding them that after every winter, the spring comes as the rainbow comes after raining.
Haft-Seen is an age-old Persian traditional table. It consists of seven items initiating with the letter S (sin) that symbolize seven major concepts. (i) The first item is Apple (sib); symbolizing health and healing, (ii) the second one is Sumac; symbolizing patience and perseverance, (iii) the third one is Coin (sekkeh); symbolizing wealth and bounty, (iv) the fourth one is Brunette (Sabzeh) symbolizing life and freshness, (v) the fifth one is Vinegar (serkeh) symbolizing eternity, (vi) the sixth one is Oleaster (senjed) symbolizing love and friendship, and (vii) the last one is Wheat sprout (samanu) symbolizing benevolence and blessing.
Nowruz is celebrated not only in Iran, but also in other Persian speaking countries; Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, and Afghanistan. In regard to the great cultural significance, which Nowruz holds for Iranians, many embassies abroad with Iranian staff set up Haft-Seen displays to celebrate Nowruz, highlighting the cross-cultural spirit of honoring the New Year in diverse traditions. An excellent practice of reinforcing unity.
