September marks the “Childhood Cancer Awareness Month” (CCAM), during which supportive organizations, healthcare institutions, and families join together towards raising awareness about pediatric cancer. Established in 1990, this month aims to increase public awareness on childhood cancer, the necessity and importance of supporting children suffering from cancer and their family.
Throughout this month, various events and campaigns are observed globally with gold ribbon sign, which is the recognized symbol for childhood cancer. The gold ribbon signifies hope and solidarity, while paying tribute to brave young patients, survivors, and those who have lost their lives because of cancer.
Each year, around 280,000 children are diagnosed with cancer across the world. Subsequently, cancer remains a leading cause of mortality among children. The considerable point is that more than 80% of children dealing with cancer are cured in high-income countries, while the cure rate drops to around 20% in lower-income countries.
This disparity raises the importance of sustainable support and financial aids towards improving the pediatric survival rate, particularly in low-and-middle income countries.
In regards to childhood cancer awareness month, MAHAK highlights the public awareness promotion and contributes to the September “Go Gold” global campaign annually in line with making a free-from-cancer world for all children.
At MAHAK, it’s believed that we can make a difference in lives of children towards a bright future.
