World Cancer Day (WCD) is observed annually on February 4th. Established in the year 2000, WCD is led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). This day aims to promote awareness upon cancer, its prevention, detection, and treatment. Each year, hundreds of activities and events take place worldwide, gathering communities, organizations, and individuals to highlight the growing global burden of cancer and advocating for solutions that can save lives.
The mission of WCD is to significantly reduce the mortality caused by cancer and raise the survival rate. UICC runs WCD campaigns in three-year cycles, allowing for a deeper exploration of a particular theme and greater impact. This approach ensures that a specific focus can be developed, enabling more comprehensive outreach and engagement on topics integral to cancer prevention and care.
By fostering collaboration and sharing personal stories, WCD aims to inspire action, support, and hope for those affected by cancer globally. It reminds us that everyone has a role to play in reducing the global impact of cancer.
