MAHAK Receives Awards from Professor Yalda Academic Foundation

MAHAK was honored to receive the ‘Social Responsibility in Public Health and Medicine’ award from the 4th international congress of the Prof. Dr. Alireza Yalda International Academic Foundation under the theme of ‘The recent outcomes research in molecular, cellular and clinical medicine‘.  During this ceremony, the Late Professor Parvaneh Vossough, head of MAHAK’s board of trustees was honored with the ‘Medal of Honor’ and Dr. Mardawig Alebouyeh, a prominent oncologist, chair of MAHAK Medical Council and member of its board of trustees was awarded as ‘Outstanding Professor’.
This ceremony was held on October 30, 2013 in Ebn-e-Sina Hall of Tehran University of Medical Sciences in cooperation with Prof. Alireza Yalda Academic Foundation, cultural section of the German Embassy in Iran and Alumni Office of Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Prof. Alireza Yalda, a permanent member of the Iranian Academy of Medical Sciences who is believed to be the father of modern infectious diseases field in Iran and a model ethics professional, was in attendance at the ceremony and participated in handing out the awards to the recipients.
Prof. Alireza Yalda Academic Foundation was established in 2010 by a group of physicians and scientists living abroad, aiming to honor outstanding professors, scientists and medical pioneers with outstanding ethical values, in cooperation with Alumni Office of Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
In this congress the internationally renowned researchers and scientists presented the latest scientific findings in the different fields of medicine. The congress offered main lectures and interactive panel discussions. Within the framework of the congress the ‘International Prof. Yalda Award’ in scientific categories: Junior Scientists, Innovation, Social Responsibility in Public Health and Medicine, Outstanding Professors, Culture and Art and Medal of Honor were conferred on people who have contributed significantly to the field of medicine.
During this ceremony, MAHAK family received a total of three awards including:
1.    MAHAK and ‘Social Responsibility in Public Health and Medicine’ Award
MAHAK was awarded the ‘Social Responsibility in Public Health and Medicine’ for its pioneering work in promoting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and its passion for humanitarian affairs.  Receiving the award on behalf of MAHAK family, managing director Mr. Arasb Ahmadian, appreciated all the kindness and support benevolent members and supporters selflessly offer in realization of providing comprehensive support for children with cancer and mentioned the effective role of MAHAK in creating new treatment capacity by raising required funds through its charity arm, emphasizing that this would not be possible without being obsessively committed to the principles of accountability and transparency.
2.    Highest Medal of the Academy for the Late Professor Parvaneh Vossough
The late Prof. Parvaneh Vossough, pioneer of modern pediatric hematology and oncology in Iran, was posthumously awarded the Foundation’s ‘Medal of Honor’ for dedicating her life and career to those in need of her exceptional knowledge, experience, and guidance in taking care of cancerous children. Dr. Azim Mehrvar, a Hematologist and Pediatric Oncology specialist and head of MAHAK Hospital, received this prize as successor of the late Prof. Parvaneh Vossough commemorating the outstanding and unique ethical characteristics of Prof. Vossough as well as her sincerity and love for all human kind.
3.    Award of ‘Outstanding Professor’ for Dr. Mardawig Alebouyeh, Member of MAHAK Board of Trustees
As the fourth prize ceremony of Prof. Dr. Alireza Yalda Academic Foundation, the award of ‘Outstanding Professor’ was granted to Dr. Mardawig Alebouyeh, a prominent oncologist and member of MAHAK board of trustees.  Receiving the award, Dr. Alebouyeh delivered a speech about the necessity for role models in the community, stating that “every community needs role models to follow.  Prof. Alireza Yalda fits that role in the field of medicine perfectly.  MAHAK congratulates leading and veteran professors who succeeded gaining these awards and is pleased that two of the honorees are members of MAHAK Board of Trustees and Medical Council.
MAHAK continuously strives to take greater steps in practicing its social responsibility as an NGO by improving the quality and quantity of its services for children with cancer. Receiving ‘Social Responsibility in Public Health and Medicine’ award reassures MAHAK that it is on the right track.
Being recognized by such prestigious entity inspires MAHAK’s ever-expanding family that the path is correct and the efforts towards reducing the malignancy effects of cancer for children and their families are bearing fruit at the personal and societal levels.
