Volunteers are one of the main pillars of the MAHAK community and our greatest asset. Best described as philanthropists who give their time and skills without financial reward, MAHAK volunteers take on responsibilities that directly support our mission. The only difference between volunteers and staff is that volunteers do not receive compensation—in every other way, they are integral members of our team.

Volunteerism is deeply rooted in MAHAK. From our founder to the members of the Boards of Trustees and Directors, and even many of the most prominent physicians in the field of cancer treatment and research, countless individuals contribute their expertise and energy to MAHAK on a voluntary basis.

Why Volunteers Matter at MAHAK

  1. Volunteers define the very character of MAHAK as a people-supported organization.

  2. By handling essential tasks, they help reduce operational costs significantly.

  3. Through fundraising initiatives such as charity bazaars, volunteers generate vital resources for the organization.

  4. Volunteers become ambassadors, spreading MAHAK’s message of compassion and charity far beyond our borders.

Since 1991, MAHAK has grown steadily, and so has our volunteer community. What began with just a handful of dedicated individuals has expanded into a family of more than 400 active volunteers. Core groups such as the Peer Group (established two decades ago) and the Youth Group remain at the heart of our volunteer family, alongside physicians and specialists who have generously offered their expertise. Among them was the late Professor Vossough, MD, a renowned pediatric oncologist who, even after retirement, chose to dedicate her time to MAHAK until her final days.

At MAHAK, even our employed staff are considered volunteers at heart. Many, including senior managers and department heads, began as volunteers before joining the organization formally. They continue to work with a spirit of dedication, often sacrificing higher salaries elsewhere for the chance to contribute to MAHAK’s mission.

The bonds between staff and volunteers are strong, creating a culture of mutual respect and shared purpose. Together, they find deep fulfillment in supporting children with cancer and easing the burdens of their families. For every member of MAHAK’s extended family, volunteerism is not only a service but also a profound expression of responsibility to others.

Because every act of kindness brings us closer to healing and hope.
