Dr. Ute Bartels Shares Breakthroughs in Germ Cell Tumor Management

On May 16th and second day of “the Biennial International Congress of Pediatric Oncology in Memory of Professor Vossough”, hosted at MAHAK, Dr. Ute Bartels as a Neuro-Oncologist from SickKids hospital of Toronto, Canada, delivered a speech virtually.
Dr. Ute Bartels is an active member of the Central Nervous System (CNS) Committee of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) in North America, Principal Investigator of the CNS Germ Cell Tumor study ACNS1123 and the SickKids Institutional Principal Investigator of COG.
She also co-chaired the Craniopharyngioma Working Group of the European Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP) for nearly a decade and currently is a member of the International Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) Consensus Group.
During her speech, Dr. Bartels, addressed the topic of “Management of Intracranial Germ Cell Tumors”.
She discussed the complexities associated with diagnosing and treating CNS germ cell tumors, underscoring the significance of tumor markers and personalized treatment strategies. Dr. Bartels emphasized the advantages of integrating both chemotherapy and radiation therapy to enhance survival rates. She highlighted ongoing efforts to tailor radiation doses based on individual treatment responses and to identify factors contributing to the risk of relapse, particularly in the spinal region. May these efforts improve the outcomes for patients with germ cell tumors.
