Conference on Pediatric Head and Neck Sarcoma: A Platform for Evolving Knowledge

Recently, MAHAK Pediatric Cancer Treatment and Research Center (MPCTRC), in collaboration with the Iranian Radiology Oncology Society, hosted a one-day conference on the “Update on Pediatric Head and Neck Sarcoma (Rhabdomyosarcoma, Ewing Sarcoma).”

The initiative to establish a comprehensive research center for childhood cancer arose from the idea that investing in research-based medical strategies ahead is just as imperative as providing daily medical care for children. Given MAHAK outreach to 40 hospitals nationwide, MPCTRC is well positioned to define and track impactful cancer research projects locally and globally.

This event brought together esteemed lecturers and specialists from prominent national and international institutions to discuss the multidisciplinary approach to treating tumors in children. The event consisted of two segments: the opening ceremony with general speeches and a specialized section featuring healthcare professionals discussing patient case studies.

Dr. Alireza Daneshgari, as MAHAK Medical Deputy, highlighted that sarcoma is one of the most prevalent kinds of pediatric cancer affecting children. He then expressed: the term “Sarcoma” encompasses a diverse range of tumor types that constitute a significant portion of pediatric cancers. MAHAK medical deputy explained MAHAK drives to host this congress are: (i) high prevalence rate of sarcoma cancer and (ii) being the country’s leading institution for pediatric cancer.

He stated: “since the end of COVID-19 pandemic and continuing the past trajectory, MAHAK has organized multiple conferences and workshops, which due to the broad spectrum of pediatric cancers, it is planned to hold at least one conference each season.

Later on the opening ceremony, Mohammad Taghi Khorsandi, Chair of the Conference, and Ahmad Ameri, the Scientific Secretary of the Conference, underscored the urge for a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach in treating pediatric cancer.

Moreover, MAHAK International Department handed out badges of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (CCAM) to the attendees and captured the moment with the SIOP-CCI #gogold framework.

During CCAM, MAHAK undertakes significant initiatives to gather local and global healthcare professionals to explore the latest progressions in pediatric cancer treatment.

Such congresses aim to enhance therapeutic services for children with cancer, promote collaboration among healthcare experts using the multidisciplinary approach, and provide invaluable opportunities for knowledge sharing among specialists in the field.
