MAHAK has developed a brochure titled You Are Not Alone on the Treatment Journey to introduce families of children with cancer to its psychological and supportive services. The guide is provided to families when a child’s medical file is opened and treatment begins, helping them understand how to access MAHAK’s Psychology Department throughout the different stages of treatment. Its content was prepared by MAHAK psychologists based on families’ common needs and frequently asked questions.

The guide explains some of the psychological and behavioural reactions children may experience during treatment, including fear of hospitals and medical procedures, concerns about illness and changes in appearance, restlessness, aggression, sleep problems and difficulty taking medication. It also addresses experiences commonly reported by parents and caregivers, such as fear of the future, exhaustion, helplessness, guilt, sleep difficulties and increased tension within the family. The brochure reminds families that they do not need to wait for a serious problem before seeking support.

The brochure also introduces the services provided by MAHAK’s Psychology Department, including support in understanding the illness, managing difficult emotions and improving communication with the child, family members, medical team, school and friends. It offers guidance on discussing illness with children, recognising signs that additional support may be needed and responding to a psychological crisis. Psychological support at MAHAK begins at the start of treatment and continues through specialist assessments, counselling sessions, regular follow-ups, educational resources and appointment requests through the MAHAK application.

For further information or to contact MAHAK’s Psychology Department, families may use the MAHAK application or call +98 21 2350 1038 or +98 935 220 3468.
