MAHAK receives another gold award in project management from IPMA

MAHAK has been recognized as the Gold Winner of the International Project Management Association (IPMA) Global Project Achievement Award 2018in the category of Sustainable Development Projects for the second time. MAHAK and one other organization were ranked as finalists among 17 participants and MAHAK’s HLA (Human Leucocyte Antigen) Bank projects received the first rank and the gold award in this competition. Formerly the “Project Management Achievement Award” had been given to MAHAK from IPMA for “Internationally Funded Humanitarian Aid Project” in 2014.

IPMA is a federation of about 70 Member Associations developing project management competences in their geographic areas of influence, interacting with thousands of practitioners and developing relationships with corporations, government agencies, universities and colleges, as well as training organizations and consulting companies.

The presented project to IPMA by MAHAK has been the one-year project of MAHAK’s HLA (Human leucocyte Antigen) Bank in the category of Sustainable Development Projects for which MAHAK has become the winner of the gold award at the IPMA Award Gala in October 2018 in Helsinki, Finland.

After years of doing research on treating cancer through transplantation, MAHAK inaugurated its HLA Bank which has been its long-time concern. In order to meet the cost of the tests and experiments on the first 5000 donated samples at which is the main challenge of other similar centers, MAHAK signed an MOU with a private sector entity under the rubric of a social responsibility action. Accordingly the private sector was committed to funding the HLA typing tests of 5000 donated samples of hematopoietic stem cells by allocating a percent of its sales revenue to this end. At the end of this one-year project the defined goal of collecting 5000 samples was achieved successfully. Through this project MAHAK put its effort on moving in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 3 entitled ‘Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages’ and reducing pre-mature mortality from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) through provision of comprehensive treatment until 2030.

For awarding such a trophy, International Project Management Association (IPMA) measures the sustainability of the presented project based on the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact. This Network asserts that by incorporating the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact into strategies, policies and procedures, and establishing a culture of integrity, companies are not only upholding their basic responsibilities to people and planet, but also setting the stage for long-term success.
