Dr. Abrasb Ahmadian, MAHAK CEO, noted that Kofi Annan, UN former Secretary-General, viewed the transition into the third millennium as the result of the interaction among three fundamental elements: government institutions, economic enterprises, and non-governmental organizations. Together, these components serve as the primary elements in empowering the infrastructure of the community, economy, and civil society.
He explained that “MAHAK Blood Stem Cell Registration Center” was established after nine years of research and investigations in the form of an agreement with the national private sector at health and treatment industry. “This agreement covered the costs for HLA typing tests and registration of 5,000 samples of hematopoietic stem cell donors, totaling €2,000,000. This successful project earned a gold medal for MAHAK in the sustainable development projects category from the International Project Management Association (IPMA) in 2017.”
Dr. Ahmadian emphasized that when MAHAK launched the blood stem cell registration center project in partnership with the private sector, few expected it to succeed as the first corporate social responsibility initiative in the field of hematopoietic stem cells. “Eight years later, nearly 12,000 people have registered at this center, resulting in 909 successful matches. Out of those 909 matched samples at MAHAK HLA bank, 11 transplants have been successfully performed to date,” he noted.
MAHAK CEO recognizes this initiative as a remarkable commitment to supporting patients in need of transplants and a promising effort to preventing currency from leaving the country. ”
He concluded: Had MAHAK been required to source samples for its 11 successful transplants from abroad, it would have incurred costs of €220,000—equivalent to 14,938,000,000 Tomans. This is the tangible manifestation of corporate social responsibility, which marks a major step towards a sustainable development for MAHAK.
